About Penwith Radio

www.penwithradio.co.uk - Live, Online, Right Now, Getting Ready For FM.
Penwith Community Radio has evolved with the help of Penwith Older People’s forum, youth groups and with the assistance of Penwith District Council before Unitary Authority status was attained by Cornwall Council.

It is a social company with a board of directors presently led by Mr Jim McKenna acting as Chair of the Board of Directors.

The station is energetically managed by Dave Pascoe and Alan
Jones and is supported by a team of volunteers who have trained in a wide range of media skills including presenting, editing, recording, office management, technical development, programme making and journalism.

There is a wide range of output covering community issues, arts and specialist music programmes.

The station is committed to all aspects of social inclusion and environmental sustainability. The community radio aims to encourage the personal development of volunteers and to respond to the concerns of people in the Penwith area.

Presently internet-based with a world-wide coverage, it is an aim of the directors to secure an Ofcom licence for FM coverage and this ends a bid has recently been submitted for an FM licence and we are awaiting Ofcom’s decision.

The Radio is a founder member of the Cornwall Community Radio Network and through this and other organisations maintains links across the Duchy. It also supports Cornwall Council in its bid for recognition of Penwith’s unique heritage, together with its European cultural status.

The station is based, thanks to its sponsors in the middle of Penzance in the Wharfside Shopping Centre. This central venue offers superb views over Mounts Bay.

Presenters and volunteers reflect the whole region from the magic of East Penwith, animal welfare in Hayle, festivals in St Just, wildlife in Marazion not to forget the cool cosmopolitan accents from distant places such as Santiago. Local musicians and freelance producers augment the station’s output.

The team includes experienced presenters that have worked and trained in hospital radio, for Classic FM, with the BBC and experienced journalists, actors and writers. It also provides room for the unusual, the zany and the avant garde!
